DODA International Canada: BOARD OF DIRECTORS

CEO Johanne St. Louis   Johanne St. Louis is a Canadian fashion designer with more than 20 years of professional experience in teaching garment design and construction and 10 years experience working to develop the garment industry in Rwanda. Johanne has worked for the National Ballet of Canada, Mirvish Productions, the Canadian Opera, Stratford Festival and created skating costumes for Olympic skaters. She is a master seamstress, draper and cutter and has created thousands of original clothing designs. Johanne has organized and participated in several fashion events across Canada as well as in Rwanda. In 2008, Johanne started Dreamyz, a humanitarian pajama company to teach vulnerable people in Rwanda to sew and make products that she could sell in Canada. Johanne has developed long-standing relationships with the textile industry in Rwanda. In 2014, Johanne helped to found Doda International. She is currently involved in this ongoing project and has traveled to Rwanda on 12 occasions to provide training for a number of cooperatives and schools. Johanne is the Director of Sew Perfect Inc, a Canadian retail store and sewing services business, which provides training, custom clothing and original designs for a diverse clientele.

Secretary Katelyn Lloyd   Katelyn Lloyd is a Canadian fashion designer and graduate from George Brown College with Honours and Deans Award in the Fashion Techniques and Design Program. Katelyn has more than 5 years experience as a sewing teacher and designer/seamstress. In Grade 11, she found a community program run by Johanne St.Louis, where she learned to sew and helped with the program to teach other children. In partnership with her High School, she helped organize 2 Fashion Shows. Upon graduating in 2013, she took a leap year to work at Sew Perfect Inc., to gain skills before attending college. In 2014 she joined the Board of DODA International as Secretary. In 2015 and 2016 she travelled to Rwanda to provide technical training for sewers and set up a sewing workshop for DODA. Katelyn hopes to build her collection of items to sell under her own label, Katelyn Lloyd Fashion Designs, on Etsy. She has also been creating content for her Youtube channel, Becauseimcrafty, to help others in the sewing and crafting community learn new skills with more than 80 sewing demonstration videos on a range of industry related topics.

Director Celeste Bouchard   Celeste Bouchard, is a sustainable fashion designer from Toronto, Canada. She graduated from George Brown College in Fashion Techniques and Design in 2016. After graduation she found inspiration traveling the world and is currently developing her own women’s clothing line that focuses on people and the environment. Celeste is proficient with social media and is skilled at promoting causes to help bring light to all those doing their part and improving the lives of others. Celeste spends much of her time working with like minded people on creative projects to ethically produce and promote products they are proud of for their beauty, their quality and their impact on the world. Celeste has been a Director for Doda since 2016.

Celeste has been a Director for Doda since 2016.

 
Treaurer Leann O'Connell   Leann O’Connell is a retired Office Manager and Business Administrator with more than 40 years experience in both government and private business environments. She has been involved in many aspects of business throughout her career with a focus on Business Management. Leann has worked with many business owners and employees to improve their practices and grow their businesses.  In High School Leann learned to sew and purchased her first sewing machine at seventeen when she moved to Toronto for her first job. She has always loved sewing but now that she is retired, she has time to enjoy her passion. In 2015 and 2016 Leann took Sewing and Pattern Drafting Courses at Durham College. This led her to start an adaptive clothing business.

Director Linda Connelly   Linda Connelly is a retired nurse and mother of four and also a grandmother of nine grandchildren. She is very involved and connected with her family, Much of her working career was spent at The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto. She now lives with her husband on a beautiful farm in rural Ontario. Linda is an active supporter of her community and often volunteers her time for charities and social causes. Karin is a lover of life, travel, sports and Border Collies. She is an active member of her community and is a friend to anyone in need. She has sat on many Boards and Committees; such as the Brock Youth Center and the Horticultural Society. President/ Treasurer

UMULISA Solange is an accomplished director with a vision to improve the lives of vulnerable people through organizational and project development and implementation. Solange has been actively involved in developing projects to empower vulnerable women to become self reliant for more than 15 years. Solange has worked with many organizations including Aegis Trust, Akilah Institute For Women and Women for Women International. Her excellent networking skills have created alliances with other organization leaders and have effectively supported key initiatives.
Solange has an MBA, Degree in Finance from Maastricht School of Management, and a BBA, Degree in Accounting from Rwanda School of Finance & Banking.

Vice President

Gloria Kamanzi Uwizera is a Rwandan artist who draws her inspiration from around the globe. Her unique style is a synthesis of techniques and designs from Malaysia, Senegal, and Rwanda. Her creations draw attention from customers worldwide, including Africa, Europe, and the United States, and Canada.

In 2004, Gloria began her business in her small bedroom in Senegal. Her innovative designs gained popularity as she worked around the clock to show her work at international events. After relocating to Rwanda in 2005, she began to present her designs at fashion shows, international conferences, and exhibitions. Glo Creations now employs three people who help produce the product line which teaches them valuable job skills, and provides an opportunity for them to learn the design process. Gloria is passionate about her designs, and committed to excellence in her work. Her persistence, determination and talent are an inspiration to female entrepreneurs in Rwanda, and beyond.

Secretary

Mukalushema Olivia has more than 20 years experience working as an Office Manager and Administrative Professional. Her extensive experience working with organizations is an asset to Doda. Olivia has an MBA from Oklahoma Christian University in Business Administration and has worked for the United Nations for more than 18 years. Currently she works as an Executive Associate at FOA ~ Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
